Dr Justine Pearce

Dr Justine Pearce, Project Manager - Free Farrowing

Justine Pearce bio image

Justine is our Project Manager for free farrowing, leading and developing a project to facilitate the transition from farrowing crates to free-farrowing systems for sows in the UK.

Justine completed her BSc (Hons) in Equine Science in 2014, MSc in Animal Behaviour in 2016, and a PhD on meat chickens in 2022. Her PhD research was interdisciplinary, focusing on the collaboration between animal behaviour and welfare science, animal biomechanics and artificial intelligence.

Justine has experience in research, policy, project management and stakeholder engagement through working in research, NGO and civil society sectors.

Justine is passionate about using scientific evidence to support positive change for animal welfare particularly through the development of resources to increase awareness, encourage cross-sector collaboration and facilitate systemic change.
