For the data to be included in ChickenTrack companies are required to report progress for each criterion individually. Reporting an overall percentage across criteria is no longer considered valid.

When a single overall percentage is provided, it can only be accepted if it is explicitly clear that each criterion has reached that same percentage. This is the only circumstance in which an overall percentage can be included.

Companies are advised to report using the following template (see below for the downloadable version).

This includes providing definitions for the criteria used or alternatively stating whether the criteria follow the BCC definitions.

Examples

Reporting on breed criteria: “BCC-approved breed: 50%” is accepted without listing the specific breeds, whereas a generic description such as “slow-growing breed” must not be used and will not be accepted in future iterations.

Reporting on stocking density: reporting “Stocking density max 30 kg/m²: 70%” is accepted, whereas a generic statement such as “lower stocking densities” would not be accepted. In addition, companies are asked to report whether a maximum of one thinning per flock is applied. Reporting on thinning will be required for data to be accepted in future iterations of ChickenTrack.

Reporting on enrichment: reporting “Enrichment aligned with BCC criterion: 100%” is accepted without further detail on the enrichment type and quantity. Companies are encouraged to state the BCC criterion specifically “per 1,000 birds a minimum of 2m of usable perch space and two pecking substrates”. In future iterations, generic statements such as “environmental enrichment provided” will not be accepted.

Reporting on stunning: Companies are encouraged to state the BCC criterion specifically, and specify the stunning method used: “Controlled Atmospheric Stunning (CAS) using inert gas or multi-phase systems, or effective electrical stunning without conscious inversion”. Alternatively, “Stunning method aligned with BCC criterion: 80%” would be accepted without further detail, whereas a generic statement such as “humane stunning methods used” would not be accepted.

When a company has commitments across multiple countries, reporting should be provided for each individual country. Similarly, when commitments are made at a parent-company level, reporting should be provided for each subsidiary.
