Sodebo joins Better Chicken Commitment

News Section Icon Published 07/11/2019

Sodebo, the No.1 manufacturer of ready meals and sandwiches in France, (with around 13% market share for their own brands) has announced its commitment to improve the welfare of broilers by joining the Better Chicken Commitment.

By 2026, all of Sodebo's chicken meat will meet the higher welfare requirements, including the use of slower-growing breeds, lower stocking densities, enrichment and more humane methods of slaughter.

Compassion has been working with Sodebo on its animal welfare policies since 2017, and the company received a Good Egg Award in 2018 for its commitment to sourcing only cage-free shells and egg products by 2023.

This latest commitment for broilers reinforces Sodebo's continuous improvement plans on farm animal welfare.

They join a raft of other leading French companies that have signed up in the past couple of months, including leading retailers Intermarché (and Netto), Auchan and Système U, the fourth largest catering company in France API Restauration, and French restaurant chain Flunch, which serves 54 million meals a year.

These commitments are set to improve the lives of millions of chickens in the future - the market in France is moving - and we hope they will continue to inspire more companies across Europe to join the move for better chicken.
