Today (29th March), Burger King (UK) has signed up to the Better Chicken Commitment (BCC) and pledged to improve the welfare of chickens across its supply chain by 2026.

This latest pledge follows the recent news from Burger King’s parent company, RBI, of a global commitment to transition to cage-free eggs, and signals a growing momentum for welfare improvement across its business.

Burger King has been reviewing its chicken supply chain over the last couple of years which will provide a valuable baseline for its roadmap to introduce the BCC criteria, which includes using breeds with better welfare outcomes, lower stocking densities, an enriched living environment and using more humane slaughter practices.

The roadmap will play an important role in setting annual progress targets for a successful implementation.

Burger King joins a growing list of leading companies that have signed up to the European Chicken Commitment - all recognising the need to advance broiler chicken welfare across the food industry.
