Leading the way in ethical sourcing, Co-op has announced it will complete its transition to higher welfare standards for continental meats by the end of the year.

Continental meat: Farrowing crates and sow stalls will be banned

Co-op has confirmed it will fully meet its cage-free commitment across its Spanish, German and Italian meat supply. This move will see products such as Prosciutto, Parma Ham, Salami, Mortadella and Chorizo sourced from sows that are free from confinement.

Farrowing crates and sow stalls will be completely removed from Co-op’s continental meat range, building on the retailer’s 2018 ban across its fresh pork, bacon, sausage, gammon, and ham products.

Advancing the cage-free agenda
