A wealth of resources

Since launching the BCBN in October 2024, Compassion has welcomed over 160 members from over 110 different companies, in 17 different countries. Compassion is now urging even more businesses to join this collaborative network - whether they are BCC signatories or not. The BCBN offers access to a wealth of resources aimed at overcoming challenges and unlocking the benefits of improved animal welfare practices, addressing hurdles that may be holding companies back.

Bringing stakeholders together

The Better Chicken Business Network (BCBN) is free to join and actively fosters collaboration by bringing together stakeholders such as producers, distributors, manufacturers, retailers, and any other company involved in the broiler supply chain. It’s a dynamic group dedicated to driving solutions and advancing the transition to the Better Chicken Commitment (BCC) in a confidential space. Members share best practices, access valuable tools, and build meaningful partnerships. Participation is flexible, allowing members to engage as much or as little as they wish.

The BCBN offers a number of benefits

The names of participating companies usually remain exclusive to members, however, Dagobert Blase Neto, Sales Director at Europa Cuisson (French company specialising in poultry cooking) was happy to explain why he has joined the BCBN: "We attended the launch of the Better Chicken Business Network at SIAL in Paris, and it was a great opportunity to meet industry players who, like us, are committed to improving broiler welfare. Making these connections is invaluable for developing strong business relationships and advancing responsible sourcing. Being part of such a platform will help us in building our BCC product range. Discussing sustainability in broiler production

The most recent BCBN event took place in London at the end of April, with roundtable discussions and networking for those attending in person, as well as a webinar entitled: ‘Sustainability in Broiler Production and the BCC’, which featured guest speaker, Emily Burton, a Professor in Sustainable Food Production, who undertakes research into poultry nutrition and related fields and spoke about using feed to improve sustainability. Compassion’s Research Manager, Dr. Ana Martos Martinez-Caja, also presented on the sustainability of using higher welfare systems.

A supplier list and marketing toolkit

Compassion takes a proactive approach to supporting companies interested in committing to, or implementing, the Better Chicken Commitment. This includes providing a Supplier List which highlights producers and distributors open to supplying BCC-aligned products. The charity also offers a ‘Better Chicken’ marketing toolkit, designed to help food companies strengthen communication, raise awareness and improve understanding of the Better Chicken Commitment.
