Quick's roadmap highlights this year’s performance, as well as its annual phased transition plan to meet the BCC requirements for all the broiler chickens in its supply by 2026.

PROGRESS TO DATE

Significant progress has been made since the company's commitment at the end of 2022. This is particularly the case for key criteria such as the provision of natural light on farm, providing an enriched environment for the birds, reducing the stocking density and using slower growing breeds.

This roadmap provides visibility on Quick's deadlines for implementing the BCC criteria. It is the result of in-depth work carried out by the Quick teams and their broiler suppliers. Thanks to this approach, the producers supplying Quick will be able to plan the volumes of BCC chickens required and adapt their farms to meet the chain's needs.

LEADING BY EXAMPLE

Quick is the first European BCC signatory to communicate its roadmap for implementing higher welfare criteria for 100% of its supply.

Lucille Bellegarde, Senior Food Business Manager at Compassion in World Farming (CIWF), commented: “Quick's commitment to the BCC, its transparency on the progress made and its proactivity in implementing a progressive deployment plan for the criteria provides an excellent example for others to follow.

“Compassion encourages all companies signed up to the BCC to develop a similar approach in partnership with their suppliers, and to publish their own roadmaps. This will provide stakeholders with visibility on the demand for BCC chickens in the coming years and accelerate the transition of the whole industry to higher welfare production.”
