1. Recognising Animal Sentience

Animal sentience is yet to be universally recognised, with five companies failing to acknowledge it in the public-domain.

2. Taking and Articulating an Integrated Food Systems Transition Approach

Two companies articulate a truly integrated approach, publishing an overarching statement that links Animal Welfare (AW), Protein Portfolio Rebalancing (PPR) and Positive Farming systems (PF), highlighting limited holistic food‑systems thinking.

Limited holistic food-systems thinking is reflected in company performance across all 3 categories, which remains uneven and siloed, with clear leaders for each category. Only seven companies (out of 20) scored over 25% in at least two categories, and only one company scored over 25% for all three categories; signalling a lack of joined-up action and or insufficient transparency in the public-facing domain.

3. Public-facing Disclosure

Transparency and consistency in reporting is strongest on Animal Welfare, influenced by the maturity of the topic and involvement of many of the companies in the BBFAW, which has provided a clear framework for animal welfare policy commitments, targets, governance & management, and performance impact reporting.

Reporting on PPR and PF remains more fragmented, with often partial, high-level, or scattered information across multiple documents making it difficult to assess ambitions and progress.
